Sarah Jo Crotts
Biography:
I was born and raised in Alpharetta, GA and followed my sister to Auburn University pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences. I did not pursue medical school like my fellow classmates as it was not my dream nor interest, and I knew I was meant to be elsewhere in the medical/biotechnology world. After finishing my Bachelor’s, I chose to pursue a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University at Buffalo and it was an experience of a lifetime. Although I am very glad to be back in the south, I am very fortunate to have taken the opportunity to pursue a degree elsewhere and I urge others to step out of their comfort zone because you never know what life has to offer.
“Life is inherently risky. There is only one big risk you should avoid at all costs, and that is the risk of doing nothing.” -Denis Waitley
Research:
University at Buffalo
Completely designed, tested, and produced a mechanical prototype of an exoskeleton that would be used for improving the posture and strength of an arm in post-stroke recovery.
- Studied and designed experiments to assess muscle activation and planar reaching movement
- Designed and built a reaching apparatus through AutoCAD and 3D printing fit for a variety of paradigms such as center out reaching, tracking moving targets, perturbations, etc.
- Evaluated and compared experimental and simulated data of muscle force and patterns of movement tasks
